✨ Why Holistic Self Care Matters

When most people think of self care they picture bubble baths sheet masks and maybe lighting a fancy candle. And while those things can be nice true self care goes deeper.

Holistic self care looks at your whole self body mind and environment. It is not just about looking good on the outside but supporting your energy hormones and overall well being.

As a mom and entrepreneur I have learned that it is the small realistic toxin free rituals I can stick with every day that actually make me feel nourished. Here are some of the holistic self care practices that ground me and that you can start right now.

🌞 1. Morning Grounding Rituals

Morning walk with kids as part of holistic self care

People always say “do not wake up and scroll your phone” but honestly that is not even an option for me. I have kids. The second we are awake we are awake.

So instead of fighting that reality I have turned mornings into a reset ritual that works for all of us:

  • We get up get dressed and go for a short walk in the neighborhood. It gets me steps in my kids burn off energy and we all get fresh air.

  • I bring my water bottle. That way I can hydrate before I even get back home. By the time I am ready for coffee I have already gotten my water intake started.

  • Built in sunlight. That little bit of morning light is such a mood boost and helps regulate my sleep wake cycle.

It is not a 5am miracle morning. It is real life and it is one of the most grounding rituals I have found.

🧘🏾‍♀️ 2. Midday Reality (a.k.a. Survival Mode)

This is the part of the day where wellness blogs usually tell you to do yoga flows meditation or an afternoon workout. Yeah… no. That has not happened for me since Columbus fell off the boat.

Here is what my midday “rituals” actually look like:

  • I have a velcro baby. He never lets me put him down so most of my “work” time happens during his naps while he is in the carrier on me.

  • I have a toddler. Which means any chance to get outside we are outside. Walks are basically our saving grace. They help me hit 10k steps a day keep the kids from bouncing off the walls and give us all some fresh air.

  • My tiny garden. By some miracle I have managed to keep it alive. Checking it daily watering and picking veggies honestly feels like self care. There is something grounding about touching the dirt and seeing food grow.

  • Kitchen therapy (or DIY therapy). If I get lucky I love to cook or bake from scratch. Fresh bread muffins or even mini pizzas for my toddler working with my hands feels calming. And honestly it does not even have to be food. Making my own DIY flaxseed gel or whipping up a body butter gives me that same sense of grounding. Creating something that goes in my body or on my body is a ritual that makes me feel cared for.

So no you will not find me doing midday yoga. But you will find me baby wearing while answering emails wrangling a toddler on walks pulling tomatoes from my garden or mixing up something homemade that makes me feel connected. And honestly That feels just as much like holistic self care.

🌙 3. Evenings: The Honest Version

Mom practicing realistic evening self care by praying.

By the time evening hits I am running on fumes. The kids have been wrestled through dinner and bedtime the house looks like a mini tornado hit and honestly the only thing on my mind is collapsing into bed.

So instead of a long “wind down routine” my evenings are more about squeezing in little wins where I can:

  • Laundry counts as self care. I use non toxic detergent so even if the day was chaotic slipping into clean sheets feels like a reset.

  • Prayer. No journaling no long ritual just a moment with Yah every night to center myself and release the day.

  • Nail oil massage. Before bed I take a minute to massage my DIY nail oil into my cuticles. It is quick but it feels grounding and my nails stay strong and nourished.

Evenings are not about perfection in my world they are about survival. And that is still self care. Holistic self care does not have to mean spa nights sometimes it is prayer a quick self care ritual and giving yourself grace for making it through the day.

💡 Key Takeaway

Holistic self care is not about perfection or Instagram worthy routines. It is about daily choices that nourish your body mind and environment even if those choices look a little messy in the middle of motherhood.

Start with one ritual today whether it is a morning walk with your kids checking your garden or massaging oil into your cuticles before bed.
